Violent protests spreading

Since I work in a Global Security Operations department, we have to monitor the world news while we are here at work. Currently, I am seeing that the violent protesting outside of US embassies, has spread to Yemen, and even Tunisia! The footage I am watching on the big screen right now is unbelievable. These people are so outraged. We can only hope for the best.

  1. I find it interesting that the alleged cause of these protests is a small film. From what I've been able to determine, the film first went viral when various predominantly Islamic news agencies started discussing it.

It's tragic, but it will be a fascinating study into the power of the media to incite violence once the dust settles.

One thing I've noticed however is that these chaotic events are occurring in the North. I'm curious if that has any link to the discussion in class of the headstrong Berbers, where the mentality has passed on as a part of the culture.

  2. I also think it is interesting that a film can cause such unrest throughout the Muslim community. I strongly believe that the Arab Spring is still fresh in the minds of the rebellious youth and that there is a noticeable form of nationalism rallied around Islam. Lastly, I think this is interesting because nationalism is usually seen as one's love for a country, the Muslim populations of these North African states are coming together for one cause in the support of Islam.
